Indicator and Button

DogeBox1 exposes a single RGB indicator light and a single button on the device. This page explains every indicator state and how to use the button for reset and recovery.

1. Legend

The indicator light expresses state along two axes: color and blink pattern.

Color

After powering on, the indicator takes about one to two seconds to light up for the first time. This is normal boot behavior.

2. Indicator States

The table below covers every possible indicator state. The Occurs column describes when each state is observable.

3. Button Operations

The device has a single button. Its function depends on when it is pressed.

Operation A: Hold for 5 seconds during operation — Reset Wi-Fi and unbind

Use cases: Switching Wi-Fi networks, unbinding the device from your account, or recovering from a forgotten Wi-Fi password.

Steps:

  1. Make sure the device is running.
  2. Press and hold the button. While you hold it, the indicator blinks red rapidly to confirm the action — keep holding.
  3. After 5 seconds the indicator becomes solid red, signaling that the action is confirmed. You may now release the button.
  4. Once released, the device clears its Wi-Fi configuration, unbinds from your account, and reboots into provisioning mode (solid blue).

Notes:

  • If you release the button before 5 seconds elapse, the action is cancelled and the device remains in its previous state.
  • This operation only clears the Wi-Fi configuration and unbinds the device. It does not affect installed firmware.

Operation B: Hold the button while powering on — Enter recovery mode

Use cases: The device cannot boot normally, or you need to flash new firmware manually.

Steps:

  1. Disconnect power from the device.
  2. Press and hold the button.
  3. While keeping the button held, reconnect power.
  4. Continue holding the button for more than 20 seconds. The indicator will not light up during this time — count the interval yourself.
  5. Release the button. The device enters recovery mode and the indicator begins blinking red slowly.

Important: Operation A is performed while the device is already running (hold for 5 seconds). Operation B must be performed by holding the button before powering on and keeping it held for 20 seconds. Do not confuse the two.

4. Recovery Mode

Recovery mode is used when the firmware cannot run or when you need to re-flash firmware manually.

How to Enter

  • Manually: Hold the button while powering on (see Operation B above).
  • Automatically: The device enters recovery mode on its own when it cannot boot normally — no user action needed.

Firmware Upload Steps

  1. Once in recovery mode, the device hosts a Wi-Fi access point:

    • SSID: RECOVERY_xxxxxx (the last six characters differ per device)
    • Password: recovery

  2. Connect a computer or phone to this hotspot.

  3. Open a browser and navigate to:

    http://192.168.4.1/

  4. On the page, select a firmware file and click Upload Firmware.

  5. Wait for the progress bar to reach 100%.
  6. On success, the indicator will blink green rapidly. Manually power-cycle the device to boot the new firmware.
  7. On failure, the indicator will blink red rapidly. Check the firmware file, reload the page, and retry.
